Baseball and the BBC

The A-Rod thing is so huge that it's actually been on the front page of the BBC News website all day. There's a good article on there comparing A-Rod and David Beckham (go read the article now if you don't know who he is...), and the mighty Real Madrid to the all-powerful New York Yankees.

Still, it's nice to see that, even with the addition of A-Rod to the Yankees' ballclub, the BBC still gives the edge to Real Madrid...!

April Fool?

I've been so busy recently that I haven't had time to post on here - in fact, since last Thursday, I haven't even had chance to surf the Web to find out what's going on in the baseball world. So when I logged on to ESPN this morning and saw news of the biggest trade since Babe Ruth went to New York, I have to admit that I checked the date - I know it's February 17th, but I just wondered if I hadn't gone to sleep for a month-and-a-half and woken up on April 1st. After all the A-Rod-Manny hoopla over the winter, I thought this had all blown over, but the Yankees proved - as ever - that it ain't over 'til the fat lady lady sings (or 'til the best shortstop in baseball signs on the dotted line.

I need some time to digest this huge piece of news (maybe I'll set the photo of A-Rod in pinstripes as my desktop wallpaper - after all, seeing is believing...), and when I have, I'll be able to react to it.

I live for this

You can check on the new "I Live For This" commercial promoting Opening Day 2004 on MLB.com's homepage.

It's probably not the best of examples to give to any young baseball fans out there who might see the ad, because playing baseball indoors is a sure-fire way to create havoc in the household, but you'd have a hard time turfing these guys out of your house - that's a helluva pick-up baseball game going on there in the living room. "Hey Derek, Alex, Josh - you sure you don't wanna go out and play in the yard instead?"

It's baseball's turn

If this article on MLB.com doesn't make your mouth water at the thought of the exciting season that lies ahead, then check your pulse - it's quite possible that you're clinically dead...
